I grew up in Greenville, South Carolina. As a teenager, I remember my father reaching a 25-year milestone with his employer, a name-brand company. Shortly thereafter, my dad had to fight to keep his job because of his age; despite his loyalty. He feared losing his job while holding a mortgage and helping my older brother and sister pay for college.

That was a stressful time for our family. He persevered through that uncertain period and thankfully worked there for another 12 years before deciding to retire. He was fortunate, but the uncertainty of his employment during my high school years...
