Born and raised in Malaysia, I arrived in the US with $1000 and a small suitcase in my early twenties. I joke that I "spent WAY too many years in school" earning MSc and PhD degrees in engineering (University of Pennsylvania) and before that a BSc (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland). After a successful engineering and management career at the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine, I semi-retired to San Luis Obispo (SLO) and found new passions in volunteer work and golf.
