I developed a strong interest in investing while working as account director for a large corporate real estate firm in Chicago. I'd taken a very passive approach (set it and forget it!) to managing my 401(k) plan, and it was languishing. Despite regular contributions, my account balance wasn't growing significantly from quarter to quarter and year to year.
