When I was younger, I used to save my money, all year long, in preparation for one event... Easter vacation to Myrtle Beach. On the drive down, I would inventory my funds for the week and plan where each dollar would be spent. I calculated my 'major' purchases, estimated daily discretionary spending and factored in enough margin to ensure my savings wouldn't run out before the trip did. And, every year, I always seemed to come home with a few dollars still in my pocket.
