I was raised in Nebraska, where I grew up helping with the family auction business and my mother's restaurant. I learned from a young age that hard work and honesty was the recipe for success. Thanks to my achievements in the rodeo arena, I attended Weather Community College in Weatherford, Texas on a full ride rodeo scholarship.

After college, I began my career in the western apparel industry. I traveled every state east of the Mississippi River at some point, representing Panhandle Slim, Roper, Stetson and Ariat at different times for six years.
