The paper wouldn't burn. I stood before a congregation, debt report in hand, trying to burn it ceremoniously. With a lighter, I lit each corner in turn, only to see it flame out. Growing increasingly embarrassed, I confessed to the congregation that our printer paper would not burn and then, with show, ripped up the debt report to cheers and applause.
The debt report told a story: together, we had raised funds to pay off the medical debt of our neighbors.
