About EJ

Right after we were born, my Nana opened a savings account for my sister and me. No one in my family had ever gone to college, so Nana made it her mission to save every penny she could. After every one of our little-league games, she’d stay late in her muumuu, collecting cans in burlap sacks. I was so embarrassed.

Once the bags were full, she would take us to the aluminum recycling center. Then she would take us to the bank to deposit the cash received from recycling into our college savings accounts. She did that for 18 years...
